America, what did you buy?

about

I don't usually write political songs, but these are emotionally trying times. Music is the best way that I know how to deal with my emotions, so here you go.

lyrics

While the world gets flooded by lies
I’ve been trying to learn to swim with my eyes
We raced to the bottom for the bottom line
Now I’m in the largest for-profit prison doing time

So do you feel free?
Now that facts are a commodity
In a market that wants no supply
Oh America, what did you buy?

Your name in gold letters are the only words you like to read
But words are cheap to those who sold their integrity
If I had a dollar for every time you lied
I could buy and burn your kingdom a hundred times

So now am I free?
To oppress those different from me
Climb their bodies up to the sky
Oh America, what did you buy?
Oh America, what did you buy?
Oh America, what did we buy?

Oh America, what did you buy?
Oh America, what did you buy?
Fools-gold has never been valued so high
But those making money will say, “let the market decide”
And as long as their checks clear, they’ll all fall back into line
